ICE ON THE HUDSON
Probably nothing special for those who’ve lived here for years, but the most ice I’ve seen on water was on mountain rivers and smaller lakes up in the Sierras in California and the Cascades in Washington, and never on a body of water this big. It’s been cold for sure, but I had no idea until I was at Riverbank State Park (this the home of the selfsame pool I swim in, which has an amazing view of New Jersey from the lanes as well) that it was harsh enough for the river to freeze over near the shore. Ghastly, harshly, starkly, beautiful.
