Guy Maddin is in town showing off his excellent new film Brand Upon The Brain which I’m proud to say was filmed in Seattle and even prouder that friends of mine worked on this fine piece of filmmaking as well. Maddin’s doing a stint of shows down in the beautiful Village East Cinema with a full orchestra, foley, guest interlocutor (tonight’s was the incomprable Crispin Glover) and an alleged castrato. My twenty-film word review: Oblique mystery explores faded memory and adolescent longings through a warped lens melding equal parts science fiction hysteria, melodrama and stag-film titilallation. A must!
